Meet Mike, an ER Physician Assistant, avid outdoorsman & the inventor of DHUKR®.
For 20+ years, Mike has worked on the frontlines of emergency medicine, treating everything from life-threatening traumas to routine injuries, including more than his fair share of fishing mishaps. Outside the hospital, Captain Mike is most at home on the water, chasing the next catch.
This rare combination of deep medical expertise and a lifetime of fishing experience gave him a perspective few others have. DHUKR® was born where those two worlds meet.
From Frustration to Invention
During one particularly chaotic ER shift, Mike once again found himself scrambling to find string. He asked nurses, maintenance staff, anyone available, just to perform the “string method” used for removing fishing hooks. A method that’s been around for decades but never evolved. The frustration of that moment stuck with him.
As both a medical professional and a Captain and lifelong fisherman, Mike knew there had to be a better way. One that didn’t rely on improvised tools in emergency situations. One designed specifically to remove a barbed hook from human skin safely, predictably, and efficiently.
Since its inception, DHUKR® has gone through dozens of iterations, with each version tested in both emergency settings and out on the water. The final design was eventually patented, built from solid stainless steel, engineered for strength and reliability, and ready for the world.
